Panduwasnuwara..an ancient place with many stories

Panduwasnuwara name was originated from the two words "Panduwas" and "Nuwara(City)", therefore it can be identified the name Panduwasnuwara means "The City of Panduwas". King Panduwas was ruling the part of country during the 1st and 2nd centuries, those days there were four races call Yak (Industrial Mechanics), Rak (Farmers), Naa (Fisherman) and Asura (Transportation providers) living in Sri Lanka according to the history. Panduwasadewa (Panduwas) struggled with them hence he was immigrated and ruled sri lanka against locals.

Panduwasnuwara was recognized as the capital of king Panduwasadewa's era and still there are plenty of ruins beliefs as the constructions. But after 12th century Kind Parakramabahu I had made this as his administrative capital and build many palaces, religious monuments etc.

Near this capital there is the Panduwasnuwara Rajamaha Viharaya and the holy place that hosted to Tooth Relic of Lord Buddha during this period. Now it has renovate and you can see the pride of its architecture (Image at the start of the article). And also there is another special construction called "Wakraawaalaya"  according to the late Prof.Senarath Paranawithana that can be named as the place which King Parakramabahu I pledged as the King for seven countries. But some are believing that is the prison room which called "ektamgeya" that kept Unmada Chithra (Daughter of Panduwasadewa) imprisoned.

500m far from the main complex we can see the ruins of Palace of King Parakramabahu I. Now it is under inspection and have found several stone inscriptions among the ruins.

Actually Panduwasnuwara reflects the mighty of Sri Lankan kingdom in 12th century. If you can visit there it might be a great experience.
