Two years ago one of my best friend from Sweden came to Sri Lanka during his vacation. He arrived to Bandaranayake International Airport near 6.00 am. Just after passing the exit he called me and say good morning. With unexpected surprise, I asked from him that "shall I come to to pick you?" but he answered "No man..I'll get a tuk tuk and reach you..let me know the exact place in colombo". I was wondering and finally understood what he called as "tuk tuk"
Most of Foreigners who comes to Sri Lanka used to travel short destinations by tuk tuks. Actually it means Threewheelers. common name for the thereewheelers now has become more famous as Tuk Tuk. Every nook and corner anybody can find a tuk tuk without much effort.
Tuk Tuk Drivers starts their transportation fare from Rs.40 per km. Sometimes it might be a little bit high when a foreigner becoming a passenger. But sometimes tuk tuk drivers manage long trips with more than 100km just about Rs.2000-3000. it depends on the tuk tuk drivers attitude.
Always during a visit tuk tuk may be a very good resource to manage the journey with low cost and convenience travel pattern. therefore you can choose tuk tuk but try to compromise exact amount for the trip or ask them to operate electronic meter.
